Full Program Itinerary

Day One – Journey to Costa Rica
Today we will fly to San Jose, Costa Rica. Upon arrival we will be met by our guide who will accompany us to our hotel in San Jose where we will enjoy a welcome dinner before getting a good night’s rest.
Day Two – Animal Rescue and Rural Schools
This morning we will journey north to Arenal.

  • On the way we will visit the ASIS Project, a rescue center for orphaned and injured animals. This will be a prime opportunity to learn about the fauna of Costa Rica. If we are lucky we will get to help with feeding the animals and cleaning their cages.
  • After lunch we will visit a rural school where we will meet the children, learn how the school system in Costa Rica works, and have an opportunity to read to them and play with them.
  • After the school visit, we will continue on to our lodge, which is in the shadow of the Arenal Volcano.
Day Three – Ranches and Waterfalls
This morning we set out to one of the most beautiful valleys in Costa Rica with the picturesque La Fortuna Waterfall.

  • We will head to a ranch where we will find horses waiting for us to ride to the base of the waterfall. These well-trained horses will take us through beautiful ranch land into the rainforest where we may spot toucans, oropendolas and monkeys in the trees.
  • At the end of the path we will walk a short distance to the base of the 230ft high waterfall which cascades into a pool below. Here we will have time for a swim in the refreshing natural pool, fed by the La Fortuna River. You can swim right up to the cascading waterfall – it’s brilliant!
  • Later we’ll venture into the rainforest for a unique canopy tour. Our adventure begins on the Sky Tram, an open air gondola which transports us to the highest point of the Arenal Reserve.
  • From the top of the gondola we will Zipline through the Rain Forest! This incredibly exciting adventure includes 8 cross-sectional cables that together have a total length of just under 2 miles! The longest cable is 2,500 ft in length and over 650 ft from the rainforest floor.
  • During the Zipline experience, our specialized naturalist guideswill point out the unique fauna and flora of the area. Deer, monkeys, snakes, sloths, frogs, peccaries, raccoons and a great variety of birds are just some of the animals that can be seen during the tour.
Day Four – Waterfall Rappel and Canyoneering
This morning we don our safety helmets and trek through the forest to some of the most spectacular waterfalls in Costa Rica, a place very few people get to experience. Along the way we will have the chance to discover the secrets that lie hidden deep within the canyon.

  • Soon we will encounter our first waterfall where we will harness up and rappel into the beautiful and pristine canyon below. We have 5 rappels, 4 of which are alongside (or right in!) waterfalls, and one dry rock face.
  • At the end of the experience we have a short trek out of the canyon to reach the 4×4 vehicles which will transport us to base camp.
  • Following our canyoning adventure we will soak in volcanic hot springs and marvel at the beauty of the Costa Rican Rainforest which surrounds us.
  • Dinner will be served at the hot springs this evening.
Day Five – Monteverde Cloud Forest
This morning we move on to the Monteverde Cloud Forest where we will spend two nights in a rustic lodge high in the Costa Rican Cloud Forest.

  • The cloud forest has more biodiversity than even the Amazonian Rain forest, and we will learn about the many plant and animal species in the area.
  • This afternoon we will visit the Bat Jungle where we will learn about the incredible world of bats. We will learn about the many species of bats and marvel as we see bats flying through the simulated jungle environment. If we’re lucky we’ll get to see how mama bats nurse their babies.
Day Six – Meet the Fauna and Flora of the Cloud Forest
This morning we will undertake a hiking expedition into the Cloud Forest reserve, and our biologist guide will educate us on this unique ecosystem.

  • If the group is lucky, you might be able to see the beautiful Quetzal, the Three-Wattled Bell Bird, or the Black-Faced Solitaire.
  • Equally impressive is the unique flora of orchids, bromeliads, and strangler figs, a sensory experience which only adds to this forest’s already mysterious beauty.
  • This afternoon we will enjoy some down time at our hotel and can choose to explore the surrounding area or hang out by the pool or explore the extensive hotel grounds
Day Seven – Jaco and the Pacific Coast
Today we will pack our things and bid goodbye to the Cloud Forest as we journey to explore the Pacific Coastal Area of Costa Rica.

  • After checking into our hotel we will have a chance to explore the area and take a swim before dinner.
Day Eight – Hang Ten in Costa Rica!
The Jaco area of Costa Rica is famous for its surfing. Jaco is world renowned for having consistent waves and an easy beach break along with moderate currents.

  • When in Jaco, you just have to take a surfing lesson! This morning, we’ll walk to the beach where our instructors await. These experts in the art of surfing will show us the techniques required to be up & surfing in no time at all.
  • At the end of the lesson we will have time to relax on the beach and swim in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean.
  • In the late afternoon, we’ll have some leisure time at the hotel to enjoy the pool and all-inclusive amenities.
Day Nine – San Jose, Costa Rica
Adventure activities always create an opportunity for personal growth, and Costa Rica is packed with adventure!

  • This morning, we’ll reinforce some of those lessons and learn more about ourselves as our guide leads us through team-building activities.
  • Then we’ll drive back to San Jose, where we’ll spend our last night in this fascinating country.
  • This afternoon we’ll have time for shopping & souvenir hunting as we visit San Jose’s Central Market.
  • Our farewell dinner will be at our hotel.
Day Ten – Adios, amigos!
Today we’re homeward bound!

  • Breakfast at the hotel before heading to the airport for our flight back to the USA.
