Full Program Itinerary

Day One
Bon Voyage! Today we depart the U.S. for Christchurch, New Zealand.
Day Two
Skip the dateline

  • As we journey south on our flight to New Zealand we cross the international date line and lose a day. Never fear, we will gain it back on our return journey.
Day Three
Arrival in New Zealand.

  • After clearing customs and immigration in Auckland we transfer to the domestic terminal for our flight to Christchurch on the South Island.
    • Our Full On instructor will meet us at the Christchurch airport. After some introductions we will head to a local supermarket to shop for anything we might have forgotten to bring along with us. Keep in mind that we will be out in the wilds of the Southern Alps so no shopping where we are going…..
    • Next we drive to our base camp for the next couple of days up on Pudding Hill.
  • Our instructor will give us some time to unpack, settle in and explore the area. Lots of time to photograph the natural beauty of the South Island.
  • Later we will travel to the Antarctic Center. This is the base where US and other expeditions assemble before heading down to the Antarctic.
  • Our visit will include an overview of the Antarctic and we will learn about how expeditions prepare to travel to this hostile land. As part of our visit we will experience a thrilling ride on a Hagglund truck. These monster trucks are deployed in the Antarctic as they can handle all his of terrain.
  • In the evening we will have our first personal development session with our instructor.
Day Four
Conquering Washpen Falls

  • Our day begins with a resistance run. Running not for you? No worries, our instructors have alternatives.
  • Back at the campsite we prepare breakfast and get ready for our day.
  • After breakfast we head to Washpen Falls where we will challenge ourselves on a giant swing, high ropes course, hiking through the rainforest and ultimately abseiling Washpen.
  • Later we return to Pudding Hill for our overnight.
Day Five
Tekapo

  • Our day begins with our resistance run. (Are you getting the idea that this will be a daily ritual?)
  • After breakfast its time to pack the van and head to Tekapo.
  • Along the way we will stop for a traditional New Zealand lunch at Farlie Pies, a famous local pie shop. Thinking apple pie for lunch? Not in New Zealand. These are meat pies and we will have a variety to choose from.
  • After our pie lunch its on to one of the most picturesque villages in the region. Tekapo with a population of only 350 people is a photographer’s dream.
  • One of the most photographed icons is the Church of the Good Shepard on the shores of Lake Tekapo. Don’t miss the view from the altar window.
  • Another landmark is the statue of the New Zealand Collie. This statue was commissioned by the people of Tekapo in recognition of this indispensable sheep dog.
  • This evening we will experience the wonders of our universe at the mount St. John Observatory. This area is one of the few international dark sky reserves on the planet. These reserves are protected from light pollution by international treaty. The night sky views from here are extraordinary.
  • Accommodation will be in the town of Tekapo this evening
Day Six
Skiing and Snowboarding on Round Hill

  • Our day begins with our resistance run followed by a hearty breakfast.
  • After breakfast we head to Round Hill for a day of fun in the snow. Never skied before? No worries, today will accommodate all levels of skiing and snowboarding so even if you have never been on the snow before, we got ya covered!
  • What better way to relax after a day on the slopes than a soak in a hot spring? Following our day of snow adventure we head to the Tekapo Springs where a variety of hot pools await.
  • This evening we return to our accommodation in Takapo.
Day Seven
Travel to Wanaka via Mt Cook

  • No run this morning! We have an early start to our day as we pack up and head to Mt. Cook.
  • Mt. Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand and the most spectacular of the Southern Alps. Does this scenery seem familiar? It should if you have seen The Lord of the Rings movies! Much of the filming was done in this area.
  • The mountain views will inspire us as we ascend from the shores of Lake Takapo to the Mt Cook village.
  • Our first stop will be the Sir Edmund Hilary visitor center where we will learn about the formation of the mountain range.
  • Next we head on our first major hike to the base of the Hooker Glacier and frozen Hooker Lake. Along the way you may begin to think you could see Gandalf and the crew from Lord of the Rings around each corner. The scenery is truly spectacular.
  • Lunch will be cooked on gas stoves on the shores of the lake.
  • After we hike back to our van we continue our journey to Wanaka our next stop for the evening.
  • This evening we all participate in a personal development session.
