Day One: Bon Voyage!
Today we depart the U.S. for Rome, Italy
Day Two: Benvenuto, Italia!
This morning, we arrive in the “Eternal City,” Rome.

We’ll waste no time, as we begin our adventure with an active exploration of “Roma, Eterna!”

  • Our first glimpses are revealed as our expert Travel Manager guides us through an overview of this ancient and magnificent city. We’ll discover many of Rome’s most iconic sites, including Hadrian’s Pantheon, St. Patrick Church, the newly restored Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps.
  • We’ll get our first taste of authentic Italian gelato at Piazza Navona
  • Later, we’ll check into our hotel and enjoy some time to clean up before dinner
  • Tonight, we’ll dine like joyful Romans at our “Welcome to Italy” dinner.
  • Time to grab some serious shut-eye, as we have a big day planned tomorrow.
Day Three: Vatican City
We’ll wake this morning and hotfoot it to the world’s smallest country: Vatican City.

  • Regardless of your personal faith status, it’s powerful and memorable to experience the heart of the global Catholic Church.
  • We’ll see the Sistine Chapel, explore the priceless masterpieces in the Vatican Museums, see some of the most holy and famous sites on earth and meet with an official emissary, a Catholic Priest who lives and works in the Vatican
  • Following our visit to the Vatican, we’ll enter St. Peter’s Basilica, the most important church in the Catholic faith.

This evening we’ll enjoy dinner in Rome and have some rare unstructured time to prepare for tomorrow.

Day Four: City of Monuments & Ruins
Some of Rome’s most epic highlights await you this morning!

  • This morning we explore another of Rome’s icons, the Coliseum. Here we will discover the truth about whether Christians were really fed to lions to entertain the Roman citizens.
  • The Coliseum is fascinating to the modern-day visitor. With the assistance of our local Roman expert, we will marvel at the construction and learn what the tunnels under the arena were used for. How did they flood the floor of the Coliseum to stage sea battles? …an excellent question for our guide.
  • Next, it’s on to the Roman Forum where we get to walk through ancient ruins dating back more than 2,000 years. Our guide will explain the layout of the Forum and what the various buildings were used for.
  • Our exploration isn’t complete without traversing Palatine Hill and Fori Imperiali.
  • After lunch, we’ll descend into the Roman Catacombs for a creepy, fascinating and memorable adventure.

Tonight, we’ll enjoy a distinctively local Roman dinner: we’ll take part in a traditional pizza baking class. We’ll hand-craft our own culinary masterpieces, then we’ll enjoy the fruits of our labor. Buon appetito!

Day Five: Tuscany
This morning, we depart for Tuscany, said to be one of the most beautiful regions of Italy.

  • It’s endless perfect photo ops as the many hilltop towns wind gloriously into view, set amidst some of the most stunning vistas on earth.
  • On the way to Florence, you simply cannot miss Siena.
  • We’ll stop and meet a local expert who will take us on a fascinating exploration of this distinctive small city, filled with centuries of history, art and culture.
  • This is a different side of Italy than most tourists will see. From the shops to the squares, from the the ancient city walls to the winding & picturesque cobblestone streets, you’ll never forget Siena!

Tonight, we’ll check into our hotel in beautiful Montecatini.

Day Six: Florence
This morning we head a short, breath-taking distance to the city of the Medici, Firenze!

  • We meet a local guide for an architecture tour of this famous Renaissance city’s most famous facades.
  • We will see the Il Duomo di Firenze (the cathedral), Piazza della Signoria, the Ponte Vecchio, and much, much more.
  • Next up, Santa Maria Novella Church, and the Accademia Gallery, where the most famous of Michelangelo’s works is on display – the Statue of David.
  • This afternoon, we will tour the Uffizi Gallery, home to many of the most important and valuable masterpieces in human history.
    • See Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus,” as well as masterworks by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Caravaggio, Michelangelo and Titian, to name a few.
Day Seven: Pisa & the Beach
This morning we take a day trip to Pisa!

  • The Italian countryside rolls by our window as we traverse the top of the boot of Italy and marvel at the many ancient Italian towns along the way, noting the progression of architectural styles through the region, culminating in the Romanesque style made so famous in Pisa.
  • The drive will be rewarded as we approach one of Europe’s most iconic buildings, the Leaning Tower.
  • There will be time to explore, and you may find yourself posing for a picture as you demonstrate your strength by holding up the tilting monument.
  • Pisa is one of Italy’s great souvenir stops, so we will take a little time to shop the local vendors.
  • La dolce Vita! For a “postcard perfect” afternoon, we’ll make our way to the Mediterranean coast for some time on the beach near Viarregio!
Day Eight: Verona to Venice
  • As we proceed to Venice, we’ll make our way to lovely Verona.
  • Here, we will explore the city and take in its most famous highlight, the balcony of brave Romeo and fair Juliet.
  • This afternoon, we arrive in Padua and prepare for our unforgettable experiences in Venice!
Day Nine: Venezia!
Prepare to be amazed, dazzled and perhaps a little overwhelmed by the romantic beauty of Venice.

  • We’ll board a train at Maestre for the short ride into Venice, where we’ll be joined by our local Venetian expert. He will lead us on a fascinating, historical and enlightening “discovery tour.”
  • We will marvel at this amazing city built in a swamp with canals rather than streets.
  • We will see St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, the Bell Tower, the Bridge of Sighs and the Rialto Bridge.
  • We will enjoy a fantastic Italian dinner along the canals and have some time to see the legendary beauty of this romantic city by night.
Day Ten: Glass, Gondolas & Palazzos
This morning we’re further exploring the floating city of canals, bridges & masks: Venezia!

  • We’ll board a ferry to marvel at the art of Murano glass blowing.
    • Located on the Venetian island of Murano, this is a favorite activity of students each year—you’ll quickly grasp why. Even before 700AD, Venetian artisans were blowing glass on the island of Murano!
    • We will learn about each step of the process – from the composition to the polishing of the glass.
    • The live demonstration of the production process is fascinating to watch as the artist transforms a blob of molten glass into an object of beauty.
  • No visit to Venice would be complete without a ride in a Venetian gondola! While passing along the “Canal Grande” and narrow channels, we will see the famous Guggenheim Museum, the “Fenice Theater,” and Mozart’s Venice Residence.
  • After lunch, we’ll discover the iconic Doge’s Palace, the former residence of the Doge of Venice and the supreme authority of the Republic of Venice as we join another local expert for a guided tour.

Tonight, we’ll enjoy a special farewell dinner as we reflect and reminisce about the many treasures, adventures and marvels that have made Italy a truly transformative experience!

Day Eleven: Arrivederci!
This morning we’ll depart this magical floating city to transfer to the airport to begin our journey home.

Bon Voyage!
